the cosmic matter of Black lives is new series of ritual-performances by Cherise Morris. Each event is a performative, visual and experiential interpretation of writings from her forthcoming book, the cosmic matter of Black lives. These immersive ritual spaces invite attendees to gather together around practices of Black liberation. The ritual-performances explore and embody inquiries around ancestral nature-based practices and spiritual wisdoms as a profound source of Black resistance, liberation and healing through ritualized movement, auditory sensation and audience participation. The ritual-performances are both an act of witnessing and a site of communion Each ritual performance includes a participatory ritual component.
